hands-raisedFor effective implementation of the BIST model it is critical that staff members commit to Basic BIST training. This creates a sound understanding and foundation for the BIST philosophy. There is a direct correlation between the number of staff members trained and the effective implementation of the model.

Our goal is to ensure that children leaving our system have the skills to become productive young adults. Achievement of this goal is dependent upon a similar philosophical foundation which is created through participation in BIST training.

Please check our Training Calendar for updates regarding times/locations/cost.

All BIST Trainings are from 8:30-4:30 unless otherwise specified on the registration form.

We are excited to announce that we have made some changes both to the classes we offer as well as renaming some of the present classes so that the name better represents the class content.

Teaching and Protecting--The Heart of BIST
One of our on-going concerns as a BIST Team is that schools struggle to have the philosophy of BIST drive their thinking as opposed to the logistics of BIST driving decisions regarding difficult students.  We have developed a new two-day class that will solely focus on the philosophy of BIST.  This summer the focus will be philosophy, and language.  Our goal will be to renew energy around the philosophy and continue the development of a building vision around outlasting students to a point of life change.  We would love for school teams to attend this class as well as any individual who has attended Basic BIST in the past and would like a refresher.  Come join us in this renewal of energy.

Basic BIST
First of all, we realize that giving up five days during the summer is a tremendous committment.  However, we feel that if we shorten the Basic BIST class we will lessen the impact in changing the adult thinking around difficult students.  Therefore, Basic BIST will remain five days during the summer and one Frday night and three Saturdays during the fall.  We hope as districts, you will continue to commit to having new teachers attend this class.  The format of this class will remain approximately what it has been in the past.

Building BIST--The Framework of Success
This class has formerly had the title of Advanced BIST.  Becuase of the title, people often felt that it was a more in-depth perspective on BIST.  However, this class was designed for building teams to assess building strengths and obstacles to create a "next step" plan.  This class will now be named Building BIST--The Framework of Success.  The format will continue to be analyzing strengths and obstacles in order to create building plans, however from this point forward each class will have a different focus area.  This class will continue to be held in the summer for two days as well as in February for one Friday nght and one Saturday.  The focus areas for the 2012 summer class will be Common Areas and Working with Parents.

Effective Classroom Management
This class has been popular for a number of years for new teachers in education.  Our goal in this class is to help teachers either develop or review the tools in their toolbag regarding classroom management.  We absolutely recognize that classroom management  must come prior  to the use of BIST logistics.  This class will remain consistent as a two-day class offered one time per year.

Mental Health Class
This class will continue to be offered two times per year, one day in the summer and one day in January. This class will have a different focus area each time it is offered with at least two mental health diagnoses discussed in each class.  The focus for the summer class will be Anxiety Disorders and Asperger's Syndrome.

Recovery Room Training
This class will continue to be offered one time per year as a full day training for recovery/focus room facilitators.  If your district is interested in having a consultant work directly with your interventionists on a monthly basis as a group or individually, please feel free to contact us and we will be glad to set up a schedule.

Success at Pembroke

bus-160

The Pembroke Hill Lower School has been associated with BIST program for the past ten years.  We have been extremely pleased with the results.  The philosophy and procedures the program establishes for working with children's behavioral choices, allows adults to remain calm and decrease frustration. It teaches a way to counsel children so they can learn from their mistakes, and make better choices in the future.
