desksThe BIST consultant and the district staff determine scheduling and content. Efforts are made to tailor the consultation to the individual needs of each school.

A typical yearly schedule

  • One initial in-service (3-6 hours)
  • Follow-up in-service (9 hours)
  • Consultation (35-50 hours varying by building)
  • Phone or e-mail consultation as needed

As you consider the BIST program options, please be aware that this is a systems change model not just a series of helpful hints. Our program is designed to provide intensive training and ongoing support to schools. While we can provide a full day introduction to the BIST model, it has limited effectiveness as a one-time presentation.

Success in Lincoln

learn-160

As a principal, I can’t imagine leading a school without BIST. I remember how it used to be: students coming to my office for a myriad of reasons just waiting for me to deliver an “appropriate” consequence. Now we have very few office referrals because teachers have an understanding of how to identify missing skills, to process and plan with students, and a school team to support their work. BIST promotes an environment that allows us to fulfill our fundamental purpose as educators: Teachers can teach and students can learn!
